XAUUSD (Gold vs US Dollar, ทองคำ)

XAUUSD is the trading symbol for the price of one troy ounce of gold, quoted in US dollars.

XAUUSD is the symbol used on most trading platforms for gold priced in US dollars. It is written like a currency pair:

  • XAU is the standard code for one troy ounce of gold (about 31.1 grams).
  • USD is the US dollar.

The quote tells you how many US dollars one troy ounce of gold costs. If XAUUSD shows 2,000.00, one ounce of gold is priced at 2,000 US dollars.

Small example

Suppose you buy 1 ounce at 2,000.00 and the price rises to 2,010.00. The price moved 10 dollars, so the position is up 10 USD. If the price falls to 1,990.00 instead, the position is down 10 USD.

If the position were 100 ounces, the same 10-dollar move would be 1,000 USD. Position size changes the result a lot.

Why it matters

XAUUSD is one of the most widely traded gold instruments. Because the price is in dollars, changes in the US dollar and in interest rate expectations often affect it.

Common beginner mistakes

  • Mixing up units. Gold shops in Thailand often price gold per baht-weight (about 15.244 grams). XAUUSD is per troy ounce in USD, so the numbers are not directly comparable.
  • Ignoring contract size. What one Lot means for XAUUSD (for example, how many ounces) differs between platforms. Check it before you trade.
  • Underestimating movement. Gold can move several dollars quickly, so use a Stop Loss and a position size you can afford.
