Support / Resistance (แนวรับ / แนวต้าน)

Support and Resistance are price areas on a chart where buying (support) or selling (resistance) has often appeared and slowed or reversed price.

Support is a price area where price has often stopped falling and bounced up, because buyers tended to appear there. Resistance is a price area where price has often stopped rising and turned down, because sellers tended to appear there.

Think of support as a floor and resistance as a ceiling. They are usually drawn as horizontal lines on a chart, connecting several past turning points.

Simple example

Suppose EURUSD fell to 1.1000 three times in the last few weeks and bounced up each time. Many traders would mark 1.1000 as a support area. If price also rose to 1.1200 several times and then dropped, 1.1200 would be marked as a resistance area.

If price later breaks clearly above resistance, that old resistance is often watched as possible new support. The same idea works in reverse for a break below support.

Why it matters

Traders use these areas to plan entries, place a Stop Loss, and choose exit points.

Common beginner mistakes

  • Treating a level as an exact line. It is better seen as a zone, not a single price.
  • Believing the level must hold. Support and resistance show where price often reacted before, not where it will react. Levels can and do break.
  • Trading a level without a Stop Loss.

Support and Resistance are tools for reading price behavior, not guarantees.
