Major Pairs (คู่สกุลเงินหลัก)
Major Pairs are the most widely traded currency pairs in forex, each one made up of the US dollar (USD) and another major currency.
Major Pairs are the currency pairs that are traded most often in the forex market. Every major pair includes the US dollar (USD) paired with the currency of another large economy.
The pairs most commonly listed as majors are:
- EURUSD (euro / US dollar)
- GBPUSD (British pound / US dollar)
- USDJPY (US dollar / Japanese yen)
- USDCHF (US dollar / Swiss franc)
- AUDUSD (Australian dollar / US dollar)
- USDCAD (US dollar / Canadian dollar)
- NZDUSD (New Zealand dollar / US dollar)
Some sources list only the first four or five, so the exact list can vary a little.
Small example: If EURUSD is quoted at 1.1000, then 1 euro costs 1.1000 US dollars. If the price moves to 1.1050, it has moved 50 pips (0.0050 ÷ 0.0001 per pip).
Why it matters: Because so many people trade the majors, they usually have high liquidity. In normal conditions, this often means smaller spreads and easier order execution than less common pairs. That is why many beginners start with them.
Common beginner mistake: Thinking that majors are "safe" or always calm. Prices can still move fast, especially around big news such as interest rate decisions, and spreads can widen at those times. Always use risk management, such as a Stop Loss, even when trading major pairs.
