Stop Out (การบังคับปิดออเดอร์)
Stop Out is when a broker automatically closes your open positions because your Margin Level has fallen to a required minimum.
Stop Out is a safety rule used by forex and CFD brokers. When your account is losing so much that your Margin Level drops to a set percentage, the broker's system starts closing your open trades automatically. You do not need to click anything, and you cannot stop it once it begins.
Margin Level is calculated like this:
Margin Level = (Equity ÷ Used Margin) × 100
Each broker sets its own Stop Out Level, such as 20% or 50%. You can find it in the account terms.
Simple example
Say the Stop Out Level is 50%, and you have used 1,000 USD of margin to hold your trades.
- If your Equity is 2,000 USD, your Margin Level is 200%. This is fine.
- If losses push your Equity down to 500 USD, your Margin Level is 50%. This reaches the Stop Out Level.
The broker then closes a losing position, often the one with the largest loss first. It keeps closing positions until your Margin Level goes back above the Stop Out Level.
Why it matters
Stop Out turns floating losses into real, locked-in losses. It happens before your balance reaches zero, but it can still take most of your money.
Common beginner mistakes:
- Using too much leverage and opening too large a Lot size.
- Confusing Stop Out with a Margin Call. A Margin Call is only a warning. Stop Out is the actual forced closing.
- Not using a Stop Loss and hoping the price will come back.
Keeping position sizes small leaves more room for price to move against you.
