Day Trading (เดย์เทรด / ເດເທຣດ)

Day trading means opening and closing trades within the same trading day, so no position is held overnight.

Day trading is a trading style where you open and close your trades on the same day. You do not keep any position open overnight. Day traders usually look at short timeframes, such as the 1-minute, 5-minute or 15-minute chart, and try to catch smaller price moves during the day.

A simple example

Imagine you buy 1 Lot of EURUSD at 1.1000 in the morning. In the afternoon the price rises to 1.1020, and you close the trade. The move is 20 pips. You opened and closed the trade on the same day, so this is a day trade. If you had kept it open until the next day, it would no longer be a day trade.

Why it matters

Because day traders do not hold positions overnight, they avoid overnight costs such as swap fees (on forex) and the risk of a big price gap when the market opens the next day. But day trading also means making many quick decisions, and each trade pays the spread or commission. These costs can add up.

Common beginner mistakes

  • Overtrading: opening too many trades because the charts move fast.
  • Skipping the Stop Loss: fast markets can move against you quickly.
  • Using too much leverage: small moves become big losses when the trade size is too large.
  • Thinking it is easy: day trading takes practice, discipline and a clear plan. Try it on a demo account first.

Day trading is a style, not a guarantee of results. Losses are always possible.
