AUD MI Inflation Gauge (m/m)MI Inflation Gauge m/m Previous 0.3%

Previous0.3%

What it is
A monthly estimate of how prices of goods and services are changing in Australia, produced by the Melbourne Institute at the University of Melbourne.
Why it matters
It comes out before the official CPI, so traders use it as an early hint of inflation trends, which relate to RBA interest rate decisions. It is usually a low-to-medium impact release.
Usual market reaction
Markets usually compare the actual figure with the forecast. A higher-than-forecast reading tends to support the Australian dollar, as traders may see the RBA keeping rates higher for longer, while a lower reading often weighs on it. The reaction is usually milder than for the official CPI.
AUD Building Approvals (m/m)Building Approvals m/m Forecast 1.8%Previous -6.1%

Forecast1.8%Previous-6.1%

What it is
Data on the number of permits approved for new buildings in Australia, published by the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) as a change from the previous month.
Why it matters
Approvals are a forward-looking sign of construction activity and the housing market, which is sensitive to interest rates. It is usually a low-to-medium impact release, and the figure often jumps around from month to month.
Usual market reaction
Markets usually compare the actual figure with the forecast. A higher-than-forecast result tends to support the Australian dollar as it suggests solid housing demand and a stronger economy, while a lower one often weighs on it. The reaction is usually modest.
JPY Japan Manufacturing PMI (Final)Final Manufacturing PMI Forecast 53.3Previous 53.3

Forecast53.3Previous53.3

What it is
An index based on surveys of purchasing managers at Japanese factories about orders, output and hiring, compiled by S&P Global. The final reading is a revision of the earlier flash estimate.
Why it matters
A reading above 50 usually signals that manufacturing is expanding, and below 50 that it is shrinking. It is an early signal of economic health, but the final figure often matters less when it is close to the flash estimate.
Usual market reaction
Markets usually compare the actual figure with the forecast, which is often close to the flash number. A higher-than-forecast result tends to give the yen slight support as it points to a stronger economy, while a lower one often weighs on it. The reaction is usually smaller than for Bank of Japan announcements.
CNY China RatingDog Manufacturing PMIRatingDog Manufacturing PMI Forecast 52.0Previous 52.1

Forecast52.0Previous52.1

What it is
A survey of purchasing managers at private Chinese factories, compiled by S&P Global (formerly known as the Caixin PMI). A reading above 50 means the manufacturing sector is expanding, and below 50 means it is contracting.
Why it matters
It is one of the first monthly readings on the health of China's economy, so traders watch it closely. Its importance is usually moderate.
Usual market reaction
Prices tend to react to the actual figure compared with the forecast. A higher-than-forecast result usually supports the yuan and commodity-linked currencies such as the AUD, and often helps stock market sentiment. A lower-than-forecast result usually weighs on them.
AUD Australia Commodity Prices y/yCommodity Prices y/y Previous 15.5%

Previous15.5%

What it is
A commodity price index published by the Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA). It shows the year-on-year change in prices of Australia's main exports, such as iron ore, coal and LNG.
Why it matters
Australia relies heavily on commodity export income, so price changes matter for its economy. This release usually has a fairly small market impact.
Usual market reaction
Prices tend to react to the actual figure compared with the forecast. A higher-than-forecast rise in commodity prices usually supports the Australian dollar (AUD), as export earnings often improve, while a lower result tends to weigh on it. The reaction is often muted because traders can already see these prices moving in the market.

NZD NZ Building Consents m/mBuilding Consents m/m Previous 5.6%

Previous5.6%

What it is
The monthly change in the number of permits issued for new homes in New Zealand, published by the statistics agency Stats NZ.
Why it matters
Building permits are often an early sign of construction activity and the housing market, both of which affect the economy. The figure tends to be volatile from month to month, so its market impact is usually low to moderate.
Usual market reaction
Prices usually react to the actual figure compared with the forecast. A higher-than-forecast result often supports the New Zealand dollar (NZD) because it points to a firmer property sector, while a lower one tends to weigh on it. Traders often read it alongside other data and the Reserve Bank of New Zealand's stance on interest rates.
— JPY Bank Holiday
AUD RBA Cash RateCash Rate Forecast 4.85%Previous 4.60%

Forecast4.85%Previous4.60%

What it is
The Cash Rate is Australia's official interest rate, announced by the Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) after its monetary policy meeting.
Why it matters
Interest rates are the main driver of the Australian dollar (AUD), so this is one of the most important AUD events and often causes sharp moves.
Usual market reaction
Prices usually react to the actual decision compared with the forecast. A bigger-than-expected hike or a more hawkish tone tends to support AUD, while a cut or a softer-than-expected stance tends to weigh on it. The tone of the accompanying statement often matters as much as the rate itself.
AUD RBA Monetary Policy Statement
What it is
A detailed report published quarterly by the Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA), explaining its view of the economy, inflation and the reasoning behind its policy decisions.
Why it matters
It contains the RBA's economic and inflation forecasts, which help the market judge where interest rates may go next, so it usually gets fairly high attention.
Usual market reaction
Traders look at how the inflation and growth forecasts have changed from before and whether there are hints about rates. Higher-than-expected inflation forecasts or a firmer tone tend to support AUD, while weaker or softer-than-expected signals tend to weigh on it. The reaction is often smaller than for the rate decision itself, as some information is usually already priced in.
AUD RBA Rate Statement
What it is
A short written statement released by the Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) together with its interest rate decision, explaining the reasons behind it.
Why it matters
It gives clues on how the RBA sees inflation, jobs and the economy, which is very important for judging where interest rates may go next.
Usual market reaction
Markets usually compare the wording with the previous statement, for example more concern about inflation or a door opened to rate cuts. A tone firmer than expected tends to support AUD, while a softer one tends to weigh on it. Prices often move sharply in the first minutes after release.
AUD RBA Press Conference
What it is
A press conference where the Governor of the Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) explains the policy decision and answers questions from reporters.
Why it matters
Traders watch it because the Governor may give extra hints about interest rates that were not in the written statement, so it can often add volatility.
Usual market reaction
Markets usually listen for how the Governor talks about inflation, the job market and the chances of future rate hikes or cuts. A tone firmer than expected tends to support AUD, while a softer one tends to weigh on it. Prices can sometimes reverse if the answers differ from the earlier written statement.
NZD GDT Price Index (Global Dairy Trade)GDT Price Index Previous 2.5%

Previous2.5%

What it is
Global Dairy Trade (GDT) is an online auction platform for dairy products such as milk powder and butter, held regularly, usually twice a month. The index shows the change in average prices from each auction.
Why it matters
Dairy is one of New Zealand's biggest exports, so dairy prices are linked to national income. NZD traders in particular tend to pay fair attention to it.
Usual market reaction
Prices react to the actual figure compared with the forecast or the previous auction. A higher-than-forecast result tends to support the New Zealand dollar because it suggests better export earnings, while a lower result often weighs on it. The impact is usually limited mainly to NZD pairs.

NZD NZ Unemployment RateUnemployment Rate Forecast 5.5%Previous 5.6%

Forecast5.5%Previous5.6%

What it is
The share of people actively looking for work compared with New Zealand's total labour force, published quarterly by Stats NZ.
Why it matters
It is a key job-market gauge that the RBNZ considers when deciding on interest rates, so it is usually an important release for the NZD.
Usual market reaction
Prices react to the actual figure compared with the forecast. Here a lower number means a stronger job market, so a lower-than-forecast rate usually supports the NZD, while a higher-than-forecast rate tends to weigh on it. This is because the market may then expect the RBNZ to ease policy more.

Forecast0.4%Previous0.5%

What it is
The quarterly change in the number of employed people in New Zealand, published by Stats NZ.
Why it matters
The job market shows how healthy the economy is and affects inflation pressure, which the Reserve Bank of New Zealand (RBNZ) weighs when setting interest rates. It is usually an important release for the NZD.
Usual market reaction
Prices react to the actual figure compared with the forecast. A higher-than-forecast result usually supports the New Zealand dollar, as it may suggest the RBNZ is in less of a hurry to cut rates. A lower-than-forecast result tends to weigh on the NZD.

Forecast0.5%Previous0.7%

What it is
A quarterly release from Stats NZ that measures changes in the salaries and wages employers pay for the same work.
Why it matters
Rising wages can feed into inflation, so the Reserve Bank of New Zealand (RBNZ) follows it closely. Its importance is usually moderate.
Usual market reaction
Markets look at the actual figure compared with the forecast. A higher-than-forecast result may point to inflation pressure and suggest the RBNZ could keep interest rates high for longer, which usually supports the NZD. A lower-than-forecast result tends to weigh on the NZD.
JPY Monetary Base (YoY) – JapanMonetary Base y/y Forecast -14.0%Previous -15.2%

Forecast-14.0%Previous-15.2%

What it is
Data from the Bank of Japan (BoJ) showing the yearly change in the monetary base, which is the cash in circulation plus the deposits financial institutions hold at the BoJ.
Why it matters
It gives a sense of how much liquidity the BoJ is supplying and the direction of its policy, but its importance for markets is usually low.
Usual market reaction
Markets compare the actual figure with the forecast. Faster-than-expected growth may suggest looser policy and tends to weigh slightly on the JPY, while a lower-than-expected or negative figure may suggest less stimulus and often supports the JPY. The reaction is usually mild compared with BoJ meetings or speeches.
NZD ANZ Commodity Prices (MoM) – New ZealandANZ Commodity Prices m/m Previous 0.6%

Previous0.6%

What it is
A monthly index from ANZ Bank that tracks changes in the prices of New Zealand's main export commodities, such as dairy, meat and forestry products.
Why it matters
New Zealand relies heavily on farm and commodity export income, so price changes reflect the country's earnings. Its importance is usually low to moderate.
Usual market reaction
Markets look at the actual figure compared with the forecast. A larger-than-expected rise in commodity prices tends to support the NZD because export income may improve, while a fall or a weaker-than-expected result tends to weigh on it. The reaction is usually modest.
AUD Australia Household Spending m/mHousehold Spending m/m Forecast 0.2%Previous 0.0%

Forecast0.2%Previous0.0%

What it is
This measures the monthly change in consumer spending by Australian households. It is published by the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS).
Why it matters
Household consumption is a large part of the Australian economy, so the data gives clues about economic strength and inflation pressure, which feed into RBA interest rate decisions. It is usually a medium-impact release.
Usual market reaction
Markets compare the actual figure with the forecast. Spending that is higher than forecast usually supports the Australian dollar (AUD), as it suggests a stronger economy and may make RBA rate cuts less likely. A lower-than-forecast result tends to weigh on AUD. The link to gold is usually not clear-cut.
CNY RatingDog Services PMI (China)RatingDog Services PMI Forecast 51.7Previous 51.6

Forecast51.7Previous51.6

What it is
This is a survey-based index of activity in China's private services sector, compiled by S&P Global (previously known as the Caixin PMI).
Why it matters
A reading above 50 indicates the services sector is expanding, and below 50 indicates contraction. Traders use it to gauge China's economy, which affects global sentiment. It is usually a medium-impact release.
Usual market reaction
Markets compare the actual figure with the forecast. A PMI higher than forecast usually supports the yuan (CNY) and China-sensitive assets such as the Australian dollar, while a lower reading tends to weigh on them. The effect on gold and Asian stock indices often follows overall risk sentiment.

JPY BoJ Monetary Policy Meeting MinutesMonetary Policy Meeting Minutes
What it is
A summary of the discussions at the Bank of Japan's previous monetary policy meeting, published some time after the meeting. It shows what board members said about the economy, inflation and interest rates.
Why it matters
Traders read it for clues about when the BoJ might change policy or interest rates. Its importance is usually moderate, and it can matter more when markets are focused on a possible policy shift.
Usual market reaction
There is no single number to compare, so traders look at whether the tone is more hawkish (leaning towards higher rates or less stimulus) or more dovish than expected. A hawkish tone often supports the yen, while a cautious tone with ongoing easy policy tends to weigh on it. Because the meeting has already happened, the reaction is often smaller than on the decision day.
AUD Australia Goods Trade BalanceGoods Trade Balance Forecast 0.94BPrevious 0.50B

Forecast0.94BPrevious0.50B

What it is
The difference between the value of Australia's goods exports and imports, published by the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS). A positive number is a surplus and a negative number is a deficit.
Why it matters
Australia mainly exports resources such as iron ore and coal, so this figure reflects demand for its goods and the health of its economy. Its importance is usually moderate.
Usual market reaction
Markets react to the actual figure compared with the forecast. A larger-than-expected surplus (or smaller deficit) tends to support the Australian dollar, as more demand for the currency is needed to pay for exports, while a weaker result often weighs on it. The impact is usually limited unless the figure differs a lot from expectations.
JPY Japan 10-Year Bond Auction10-y Bond Auction Previous 3.10|3.8

Previous3.10|3.8

What it is
This is an auction in which Japan's Ministry of Finance sells 10-year government bonds to investors and financial institutions to raise funds for the government.
Why it matters
The result shows how strong demand is for Japanese government debt and where bond yields may be heading, which traders watch regularly. Its importance is usually moderate.
Usual market reaction
Markets often look at the bid-to-cover ratio and the average yield compared with the previous auction and expectations. Strong demand and higher yields tend to support the yen, while weak demand often pressures bond prices and can cause short-lived volatility. The usual link to gold or stock indices is not very clear-cut.
AUD RBA Deputy Governor Hauser SpeaksRBA Deputy Gov Hauser Speaks
What it is
This is a public speech or set of remarks by the Deputy Governor of the Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA), one of the central bank's senior officials.
Why it matters
Traders listen for clues about the central bank's view on the economy, inflation and the likely path of interest rates. Its importance usually depends on the content and tone of the remarks.
Usual market reaction
Markets judge whether the comments sound hawkish (hinting at higher or longer-held rates) or dovish (hinting at rate cuts) compared with expectations. Hawkish remarks tend to support the Australian dollar, while dovish ones often weigh on it. If nothing new is said, the reaction is often small.

Forecast3.8%Previous3.8%

What it is
This measures the change in average total pay for workers in Japan, including bonuses and overtime, compared with a year earlier. It is published by Japan's Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare.
Why it matters
The Bank of Japan (BoJ) watches wages because sustained pay growth supports inflation and can influence interest rate decisions. The release is usually of medium to high importance for JPY pairs.
Usual market reaction
Prices tend to react to the actual figure compared with the forecast. A higher-than-forecast result usually supports the yen, as markets may see a greater chance of a BoJ rate hike, while a lower one usually weighs on it. The reaction can vary depending on what else is going on in the market.
JPY BOJ Governor Ueda SpeaksBOJ Gov Ueda Speaks
What it is
Kazuo Ueda, Governor of the Bank of Japan (BOJ), gives a speech or public remarks about the economy and monetary policy.
Why it matters
The governor guides Japan's interest rate policy, so traders watch his words closely. It is usually seen as a high-importance event.
Usual market reaction
Traders usually listen for hints about whether the BOJ may raise interest rates or keep policy loose. If the tone is more hawkish than the market expects, the yen (JPY) often strengthens; if it is more dovish than expected, the yen tends to weaken. Prices can move sharply while he is speaking.

NZD New Zealand Parliamentary ElectionsParliamentary Elections
What it is
A general election in which New Zealand voters choose members of Parliament, which determines which party or parties form the government.
Why it matters
The result can shape budget, tax and economic policy, so it affects investor confidence in the New Zealand dollar. It tends to matter more when the result is close.
Usual market reaction
Markets usually compare the outcome with expectations from polls and news. A clear result with policies the market views favourably may support the New Zealand dollar (NZD), while an unclear result or uncertainty often leads to volatility or weakness. The Reserve Bank of New Zealand sets rates independently, so the impact usually comes from sentiment rather than direct rate changes.
